William E. �"Bill Zimba, 78, of Deford, died Thursday, March 4, 2004 in his home with his family by his side. He was born May 10, 1925 in Dearborn Township to Lawrence and Theresa (Korte) Zimba. He married Rita D. Mathis September 9, 1950 in Our Lady of Grace Mission Church Dearborn Township. They moved to their farm in Deford September 9, 1950. Bill was the fourth of nine children. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Before his time in the Army Bill was a truck farmer, raising potatoes to sell at the Eastern Market in Detroit. After moving to the farm in Deford he was a truck and Dairy farmer. Bill was a lifetime member of St. Michael Catholic Church, serving on the parish council and was a member of their ushers club. He helped draw the plans for the zoning of Kingston Township. He was a member of the zoning board of Kingston Township for many years and also the Kingston Township Board of Review. Bill enjoyed flower gardening, landscaping, cutting wood and helping his boys on the farm. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family. Bill is survived by his wife, Rita; children: Bernadette (James) Walters of Bay City, Rita (Eugene) Kaake of Gagetown, W. Jesse (Sally) Zimba of Deford, Lisa (Victor) Johnson of Saginaw, Jennifer Zimba of Gagetown, Edward Zimba of Deford, and Matthew (Jan) Zimba of Deford; grandchildren: Nathan Walters, Joshua Walters, Benjamin Zimba, Chelsee Zimba, and Emmie Zimba; brothers: Leo (Mary) Zimba of Dearborn Heights, Richard (Dot) Zimba of Dearborn Heights: sisters: Marie (William) OConnor of Webberville, Virginia Zimba of Okemos; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brothers: Verus Zimba, Lawrence Zimba; and sisters Rita Zimba and Veronica Zimba.
Funeral services to be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2004 in St. Michael Catholic Church, Wilmot, with Rev. Rick Bokinskie and Sr. Riccardina Silvestri officiating. Memorials may be made to the United Hospice of Marlette. Interment is in St. Michael Cemetery, Wilmot. Pallbearers for Mr. Zimba: Jesse Zimba, Edward Zimba, Matthew Zimba, Nathan Walters, Joshua Walters and Benjamin Zimba. Military services under the direction of VFW Post #3644. Visitation: 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday Rosary 7 p.m. Saturday evening in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday in church Arrangements by Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City, Michigan Debra L.
