John R. Ypma, 84, of Cass City, formerly of Grand Rapids, died Saturday, March 8, 2003 in Northwood Meadows Dementia Care, Cass City. He was born May 16, 1918 in Grand Rapids to Charles and Florence (Burwell) Ypma. He married Loretta D. Martin February 16, 1946 in Grand Rapids. She died May 7, 2001.
John served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II. He fought in the battle of Normandy and also served in parts of France, Germany and Iceland. He worked as a rural route carrier for the U.S. Post Service.
John is survived by his children: Richard (Ann) Ypma of Cass City, Jake (Penny) Ypma of Hastings; grandchildren: Brian (Jennifer) Ypma of Capac, Lori (Larry) Gayeski of Warren, Bradley Ypma of Cass City; great granddaughter, Hope Gayeski; siblings: Jack Ypma, Sandy (Bob) Enders, Hazel (Bob) Meaney, Mary Jane (Fred) Rau.
Funeral services held 7:00 p.m., Sunday, March 9, 2003 at Kranz Funeral Home Cass City. Interment is in Resurrection Cemetery, Grand Rapids, with a memorial service taking place at the cemetery chapel at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2003. Memorials may be made to Northwood Meadows.
