Barbara Marie Wood (Cross)

BARBARA MARIE WOOD
90, of Cass City, passed away on her birthday, Monday, February 13, 2023 in Timberline Lodge Assisted Living, Caro. She was born February 13, 1933 in Watertown Township to Harold Mason and Freida Mae (Wheaton) Belknap. She later was adopted by her stepfather Delbert Cross and her name became Barbara Marie Cross.

Barbara graduated in 1952 from Caro High School. She then married her school sweetheart, Robert Lee Wood on September 13, 1952. They were married for seventy wonderful years. Barbara worked for many years at Dibble’s Dime store in Caro before retiring. In her younger years, she enjoyed square dancing and working with ceramics. She loved camping and playing cards, especially Euchre. Barbara also volunteered at the Thumb Octagon Barn with her husband Bob. Her favorite time of the year was spring, when it was maple syrup time and fall, making apple pies from their own apple trees. She was a member of Cass City United Methodist Church.

Barbara is survived by her children: Mike (Lynelle) Wood of San Jose, CA; Wayne (Kathy) Wood of Cass City; Nancy (Rick) Johnecheck of Boyne City; five grandchildren; four step grandchildren; one great-grandchild; eight step great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert, sister, Joanne Perez.

Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2023 in Cass City United Methodist Church with Pastor Robert Demyanovich officiating. Memorials may be made to Cass City United Methodist Church or the Thumb Octagon Barn. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery in the spring.
