BILL WOODWARD
William “Bill” Leroy Woodward, 84, of Cass City, died peacefully Saturday, August 24, 2024 in his home. He is now happily reunited with his wife in Heaven. Billy was born July 4, 1940 in Argyle to Charles and Pauline (Connell) Woodward. He married Marilyn Linderman on July 23, 1960 in Mizpah Missionary Church, Cass City. She died March 12, 2023.
Bill graduated from Cass City High School in 1958. He wanted to be a farmer, but that was not to be. He tried other professions, including a short stint at Pontiac Motors and Active Homes in Marlette, but being a lumberjack became his passion. He owned and operated his own business, Woodward Logging, along with his brother Del, and retired after forty years. Bill then worked as a knife sharpener at Michigan Sugar in Caro for more than twenty years before retiring for the second time. He loved going out to eat. Since the 1960’s, Bill rarely missed a Sunday breakfast at the Cass City Gun Club. First, he went with his dad and when Charlie passed, he continued the tradition, perhaps with family, and always with friends. Bill was a hard worker, and while holding down full-time jobs, he enjoyed farming and was a gifted woodworker. Over the years, he built many China cabinets, coffee tables, cedar chests, tables, benches and let’s not forget the jewelry boxes.
Bill is survived by his children: Christina (Daniel) Gibbard of Cass City, Kevin (Tammy) Woodward of Cass City; his special girl, Courtney Woodward of Boise, ID; ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; brother, Delbert (Linda) Woodward of Decker; many nieces and nephews. Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; brother, Bob (Janice) Woodward.
