BERTHA ISABELLE WHITTENBURG,
90, of Elsie, formerly of Cass City, died Saturday, February 13, 2010 in her granddaughter’s home in Elsie. She was born February 2, 1920 in Cass City to Theodore Cleve and Effie Belle (Brown) Hendrick. She married Mark O’Dell April 30, 1938 in Elmwood Township. He died March 14, 1963. She married Donald J. Whittenburg January 12, 1974 in Caro. He died suddenly November 15, 1994.
Isabelle worked as a Nursing Supervisor of a Cottage at Caro Regional Center for 14 years. She worked as an Assistant Librarian for Baptist Bible College in Johnson City, NY for about 6 years. Isabelle was a devout member of Cass City First Baptist Church where she was also a Sunday School Teacher. She was a member of Judson-Berean Sunday School class. Isabelle was a member and former President of Women’s Missionary Fellowship. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and knitting.
Isabelle is survived by her sons: Lester M. (Joan) O’Dell of Ashley, Rev. Dr. Arthur (Ann) O’Dell of Howell, Rev. Grant D. (Debbie) O’Dell of Louisville, KY; 15 grandchildren; many great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; sisters: Ruth Fisher of Cass City, Phyllis (Sherwell) Kelly of Tecumseh; many nieces and nephews; step-children: Rev. Richard (Bethann) Whittenburg of Rockford, Marilyn Forshee of Ypsilanti, Onalee DePlonty of Punta Gorda, FL, Gary (Gloria) Whittenburg of Kissimmee, FL. She is preceded in death by her son, David O’Dell January 13, 1999; two infant grandchildren, Les and Ricky; sister, Irene Tracy; brothers-in-law: Walter Finkbeiner, George Fisher, Raymond O’Dell, Ivan Tracy; step-daughter, Sandra Whittenburg, Step son-in-law, Dwight Forshee.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 15, 2010 in Cass City First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Arthur O’Dell and Pastor David Hill officiating. Interment will be in Ellington Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Whittenburg: Brian O’Dell, Brad O’Dell, Rod O’Dell, Stephen O’Dell, Jim Walter, Ray Soliz; honorary pallbearers: Lou Schreiner, Evan O’Dell, Mike O’Dell.
