LARRY JAMES WHEELER,
64, of Cass City, died following a short illness Thursday, March 18, 2010 in Brian’s House, Bay City. He was born May 29, 1945 in Coral, MI to Leo and Anna Mae (Altimus) Wheeler. He married Mary Alice Hansen December 11, 1965 in Cowden Lake Bible Church in Coral.

Larry served in the U.S. National Guard retiring after over 22 years lastly as a food inspector. At one point Larry, both sons, a brother and cousin were all serving in the Guard at the same time. Larry and his sons won the prestigious William Conley award for food service. Larry had his chauffeur’s license since he was 16 years old. He helped his dad with his milk route and eventually owned a dairy company and milk route. He then worked for the Ionia County Road Commission for six years. Larry also drove school bus for the Greenville School District for four years. He retired October 31, 2007 from Alvan Motor Freight after 23 years as a professional truck driver. Larry was a member of Cass City United Methodist Church where he served as Trustee and many other positions. He was a member of the American Legion Post #7 in Caro. He managed Concordia Christian Youth Camp in Gowen for many years. Larry enjoyed Lionel model railroading, fishing, building with wood, and spending time with the morning coffee group at McDonalds. Larry enjoyed life and loved people. He was a very positive person. He was a great husband, father and grandfather and loved his family very much.

Left to cherish Larry’s memory: his wife, Mary; children: Michael (Dawn “Shelley”) Wheeler of Sheridan, Mark (Kristin) Wheeler of Rochester, IL, Wendy Wheeler of Portage; grandchildren: Branden, Bethany, James, Eric, Nicholas, Susan; parents: Leo and Anna Mae Wheeler of Coral; brother, Dennis (Edith) Wheeler of Fort Wayne, IN; sister, Marilyn (Richard) Biller of Lakeview; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service held 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 in Cass City United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Donelson and Pastor James Vandewarker of Evergreen Free Methodist Church, Sheridan, officiating. Interment will be in West Pine Cemetery, Sheridan. Pallbearers for Mr. Wheeler: Mike Wheeler, Mark Wheeler, Branden Wheeler, James Wheeler, Dennis Wheeler, Alex Wheeler, Rod Sherman and Mark Baes. Memorials may be made to Cass City United Methodist Church. Family and friends may share memories, prayers and stories with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
