Mardell N. Ware, 99, of Cass City, died in her home following a short illness, Friday, October 10, 2008 with her family by her side. She was born April 7, 1909 at home in Argyle Township to William and Lydia (Ball) Starr. She married Leo Stanley Ware July 3, 1930 in Lapeer. He died August 27, 1999.
Mardell attended the Starr Country School transferring to Cass City High School after her fathers death. She was a member of the first graduating class of the new high school. Mardell attended County Normal before beginning her teaching career. She taught school for three years at the Quick Country and the Cedar Run Country Schools. Mardell was a very active member and willing worker of Novesta Church of Christ. As teaching and the church were her true loves, she taught Sunday school for most of her life. Mardell was one of the first members of the Cass City chapter of the Business and Professional Womans club, known now as the Cass City Womans Club. Mardell was the office manager and general behind the scenes organizer of Mac and Leos Service until 1979. She loved poetry and could quote many favorite poems. She loved people; loved to have her family near and continued to teach until her death.
Mardell is survived by her children: Ferris (Carol) Ware of Shelbyville, IN, James (Joan) Ware of Cass City, Gordon (Pat) Ware of Cass City, Donna Nye of Cass City, David (Judy) Ware of Cass City; 18 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lisa Ware; grandson, Ted Ware; great granddaughter, Hailey Dennis; daughter-in-law, Ella Jean Ware; son-in-law, Ken Nye; and all her brothers and sisters.
Funeral service held 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008 in Novesta Church of Christ with Chuck Emmert officiating. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cass City Womans Club Scholarship Fund or Novesta Church of Christ. Pallbearers for Mrs. Ware are her grandsons: Jeffrey Ware, Daniel Ware, Gregory Ware, Dennis Nye, David Nye, Gary Nye, and Michael Ware.
