Kurt L. Wagner, 54, of Grand Rapids, died unexpectedly Friday, August 13, 2010 in his home. He was born August 8, 1956 in Cass City to Herbert and Ruth (Kirby) Wagner. He married Alice Marie Hicks on Valentine’s Day, 1997 in North Branch.
Kurt graduated from Cass City High School in 1974. He graduated from University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Sociology. Kurt later graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He took his navigation training in Louisiana and worked as a Boat Captain for Briley Marine of Morgan City, Louisiana for over 12 years. Kurt later worked for Michigan Wheel in Grand Rapids and last worked for Lear Manufacturing in Grand Rapids as a Mechanical Engineer. He enjoyed gardening, growing wonderful tomatoes. Kurt enjoyed working as a Sous Chef for Brown Restaurant in Ann Arbor while he attended U of M. He enjoyed wrestling in high school and playing tennis. He loved the water and his time on the ships. Kurt also enjoyed wind surfing. He was an avid reader and loved listening to Jazz and Blues.
Kurt is survived by his wife, Alice; daughter, Alexandria Kirby Wagner at home; mother, Ruth O’Connor of Port Austin; sisters: Beverly (Les Jr) Auten of Cass City, Aileen (Daryl) Wismer of Saranac, Dorothy Green of Grand Rapids, Jill (Bill) Haps of Grand Rapids, Vicki (Gary) DeHaan of Georgetown, SC, Mary (Dale) Parsons of North Branch; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother, John ‘Jack” Wagner; father, Herbert Wagner; step-father, Thomas “Ike” O’Connor.
Funeral service held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 2010 in Kranz Funeral Home Cass City with Rev. Dale Parsons officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery.
