ROBERT STEPHEN "JUNIOR" VARGO,
86, of Cass City, died following a short illness Friday, September 27, 2013. He was born June 30, 1927 in Taplin, WV to Robert and Mary Anne (Orban) Vargo, Sr. He married Joyce Ann Donnelly May 7, 1960 in St. Agatha Catholic Church, Gagetown.
Junior completed the eighth grade at Remington Country School. He served in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper. After his time in the military, he worked as a farmer and mechanic. Junior was a very talented mechanic. He restored many antique tractors over the years and he built and raced stock cars for the dirt track. Junior enjoyed hunting and fishing especially for rainbow trout. At one time he was a member of the Cass City Gun Glub. He was an avid reader especially enjoying Westerns. Junior was an extremely generous person and would do anything for anybody often giving up his personal time to help someone with a problem.
Junior is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters: Kathleen (Carl) Nizzola of Cass City, Julie Vargo of Cass City; grandchildren: Marc Nizzola, Anne (Wayne) Davis, Stephanie Nizzola, Katie (Tyler Warner) Nizzola; great granddaughter, Iva; sister, Mary Ann (Max) Cooper of Cass City; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Shirley (Julius) Franciosi; brothers: Thomas (Mabel) Vargo and Reginald Vargo.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013 in St. Pancratius Catholic Church with Rev. Paul Bala and Sr. Maria Dina Puddu MC officiating. Interment will take place in Elkland Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Vargo: Marc Nizzola, Ann Davis, Stephanie Nizzola, Katie Nizzola, Darrell Mallory, and John Nizzola. Memorials may be made to Rawson Memorial Library, Heartland Hospice or Charity of the Donor's Choice.
