VALMER “VAL” EARL VANCE,
85, of Cass City died following a short illness Monday, February 26, 2018 in Covenant Medical Center Cooper Campus, Saginaw. He was born October 16, 1932 in Pontiac to Earl and Gladys Mae (Glover) Vance. He married Marjorie Elizabeth Sartell May 3, 1952 in Pontiac.
Val was happiest working with wood beginning at a young age. His work career began trimming trees for Fred L. Nelson then worked for Burke Lumber for ten years. Val worked many years for Birmingham School District as maintenance person and then as school bus driver. His greatest love was working as a finish carpenter. He loved creating out of wood, he liked a challenge, loved being in his workshop. He was a gifted wood worker. Each family member has been honored with one of Val’s creations. Val took several mission trips to locations such as the Philippines, Trinidad and Tobago, and Mexico. On a recent vacation through Denali National Park, Val and Marjorie took a white-water rafting trip. Val was a member of Living Waters Church, Caro. He was currently restoring a Model A Ford.
Val is survived by his wife, Marjorie; children: Jerold (Teresa) Vance of Gallatin, TN, Nancy (Eric) Oslund of Waterford, Susan (Scott) Pigeon of Grover Beach, CA, Mark (Julie) Vance of Casper, WY; grandchildren: Jennifer Hunt, Steven Oslund, Matthew Pigeon, Andrew Pigeon, Tim Pigeon, Stephen Vance, Jimmy Vance, Abigail Vance, Andrew Vance, Nathan Vance, Catherine Vance; 12 great grandchildren and the 13th due soon; 1 great great granddaughter; sister, Eleanor Price of Lake Worth, FL. He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Donald; toddler sister, Marion and his parents.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018 in Ellington Church of the Nazarene with Mike Bearden of Living Waters Chapel, Caro and Pastor Scott Pigeon officiating. Memorials may be made to Family Discretionary Fund. Pallbearers for Mr. Vance: Eric Oslund, Steve Oslund, Larz Oslund, Bryce Oslund, Jimmy Vance, Ronny VanAllen, Scott Pigeon.
