JOHN RUSSELL THORNTON
John R. Thornton, 66, of Kingston, died Friday, January 12, 2018 in Saint Joseph Mercy Health System Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti. He was born February 16, 1951 in Pontiac the fourth of six children born to Russell Alger and Mary Antoinette (Brown) Thornton, Jr.
John graduated from Pontiac Northern High School in 1969. He worked as a production worker in various factories in the Oakland County area. John enjoyed fishing, watching television, working on his computer and he never turned away from a good meal. When John was young he wanted to be a teacher, a history teacher. He was a storyteller with amazing stories about World War II. Motorcycle riding was his greatest joy. John loved kids, especially loved having his nieces and nephews around.
John is survived by his siblings: Judy (Robert) Smith of Kingston, Patrick Thornton of Cass City, Deborah Thornton of Silverwood; brother-in-law, Edward Keding of Waterford; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; numerous cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Linda Thornton, Bonnie Keding.
Graveside service and interment will be in Kingston Cemetery in the spring. John will be buried in Kingston Cemetery to be close to his sister, Linda.
