Stefania P. Szarapski, 103, of Cass City, died Sunday, February 16, 2003 in Autumnwood of Deckerville. She was born March 8, 1899 in Poland to John Anthony and Frances (Krajewski) Pucylowski. She married Kazmier Szarapski November 10, 1923 in Detroit. He died October 11, 1977.
Stefania came to Detroit from Poland in 1918, she moved to Gagetown in 1929 and to Cass City in 1943. She farmed with her husband, Kazmier. She was a member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church of Cass City, and the Woman’s Holy Society. She loved to cook and enjoyed crocheting.
Stefania is survived by her daughter, Janina Checkeroski of Sterling Heights; sons: Edward (Bernice) Szarapski of Sterling Heights, Chester (Gertrude) Szarapski of Mt. Clemens, Stanley (Arlene) Szarapski of Cass City, Richard ( Norma) Szarapski of Cass City; grandchildren: Mark (Donna) Checkeroski, Michele (Gary) Wallman, Timothy (Paulette) Checkeroski, Sharon Rutowski, Carol (Jeff) Walters, Thomas Szarapski, Renee Szarapski, Stephanie (Ron) Sieggreen, Richard Szarapski, Jr., Joseph (Marilyn) Szarapski, Brent (Liisa) Szarapski, Paul Szarapski; great grandchildren: Joshua, Jessica, Caitlin, Shawn Checkeroski, Ryan, Ashley Wallman, Timothy, Jr., Lauren, Shannon Checkeroski, Michael Rutowski, Nicklaus Nuccio, Garrett Walters, John Maija, Nathan, Szarapski; sisters: Sabina, Constance, Janina; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by twin granddaughters, Catherine and Karen Szarapski, great granddaughter, Kay M. Checkeroski, sister, Stash, brothers: Anthony and John Pucylowski, son-in-law, Leon Checkeroski.
Funeral services held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at St. Pancratius Catholic Church, Cass City, with Rev. Steve Fillion officiating. Interment is in Novesta Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Pancratius Catholic Church.
