Michael Sullivan

February 21, 1932 — August 27, 2017

Michael L. Sullivan, 85, of Cass City passed away peacefully on Sunday August 27, 2017 in Covenant Medical Center, Cooper Campus, Saginaw. He was born February 21, 1932 in Detroit, the eldest son of Michael Patrick and Gloria (Miller) Sullivan.

Michael graduated in 1950 from Saint Mary’s High School in Royal Oak. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he received a Bronze Star, a National Defense Medal, a United Nations Service Medal, a Korean Service Ribbon and multiple letters of commendation. Michael worked as a mechanic with the family Texaco service station in Hazel Park and later as service manager at Matthews-Hargraves Chevrolet, Royal Oak. Retiring in Cass City, he enjoyed serving the members of the Thumb with newspaper routes, appliance repairs and sharing his mechanical aptitude. Michael’s passion and dreams were fulfilled by building his home on the Cass River. He enjoyed Irish music, bird watching, growing roses, his McDonald’s buddies, but most of all, the time spent with his Ellie. He was a lifetime member of Cass City VFW Post #3644.

Michael is survived by his loving and supporting partner, Eleanor Truemner of Cass City; his son, Kevin Michael (Tina) Sullivan of Wake Forest, NC; daughter, Celeste (Ronnie) Sullivan Washburn of Regan TN; Eleanor’s children: Dana (Sue) Truemner; Colleen (Kevin) Albosta; Mike (Rhonda) Truemner and Janel (Ken) Guiles. He cherished his granddaughter, Epiphany (Christian) Huffman; brother, James (Judi) Sullivan of Troy; sisters: Julie Dow of Sheboygan Falls, WI; Margaret Duvall of Estero, FL; Gloria Taliana of Boothbay Harbor, ME; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; special friends including but are not limited to: Hugh (Missy) Robertson; Bob (Christine) Abfalter; Gage Abfalter; Penny (Russ) Reinas; Bob (Byrel) Bliss; Dean Alexander, Bill Chippi, Bob Goode, Bob McKay, Dan Toner, Al Milligan. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Daniel Sullivan; sisters: JoAnn Sullivan; Patricia (Robert Glen) Lee; his lifelong friend, Bill (Cy) Gailey.

Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2017 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Debra L. Kranz, Funeral Service Celebrant officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery. Military honors under the direction of Cass City VFW Post #3644 and U.S. Army. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Leader Dogs for the Blind, or Mission Sisters of the Holy Spirit.
