JOHN DOUGLAS “JAY” SUGDEN
John Douglas Sugden, 90, of Caro, died Wednesday, February 7, 2018 in Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Caro. He was born November 19, 1927 in Cass City to Milton Donald and Etta Sophia (Bright) Sugden. He was married to Lois Edith Surbrook in 1962 in Cass City. She died in 2005.
Jay owned Jay’s Plumbing and Heating in Cass City for many years. He later enjoyed working on electric motors from his garage. Together Jay and Lois bought, renovated and operated Akron Lanes Bowling Alley for about eight years. They retired to St. Helen, Michigan and Jay returned to the Caro area after the death of Lois. An accomplished woodworker, he was known for making fine tables and dressers. Jay loved tending to the vegetables and flowers in his perfect garden. He was proud of his beautiful African violets.
Jay is survived by his son, Jerry Sugden of Cass City; daughter; Linda Walther of Cass City; step daughters: Gloria Snyder of Caro; Gail Horvat of St. Louis; fifteen grandchildren; sister, Winnifred Ball of Caro; many nieces, nephews and relatives. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Dean Sugden, Richard Sugden.
Graveside service held at a later time in the spring. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund. Family and friends may share memories, prayers and stories with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
