KATHERINE E. STRAKY
Katherine E. Straky, 86, of Rochester Hills, formerly of Cass City, died Thursday, July 15, 2004 in Medilodge of Rochester Hills. She was born September 8, 1917 in Wyandotte to Nickolas and Barbara (Lambert) Straky. Katherine never married.
Katherine grew up on the family farm and was truly a farm girl. She knew how to work hard and enjoyed the activities that come with a farm, such as: gardening, canning and sewing her own clothes. Some of the other jobs that Katherine undertook included working as a clerk at the IGA store, a kitchen helper at Hills & Dales General Hospital and on the assembly line at Walbro Manufacturing.
Katherine’s religion was very important to her and she was an active member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church. In that line, the job she enjoyed the most was as housekeeper and caregiver, for many years, for Father Peter Pijnapples. She also cared for her parents as they grew older. Katherine was a money counter and worked in the church gardens.
Katherine is survived by her brother, John Straky of Rochester Hills; nephews: Fred Straky and John Fleischhacker; nieces: Nancy Straky and Catherine Rybicki; many great nieces and great nephews; and very dear friend, Katie Jackson. Katherine was preceded in death by her sister, Susanna Fleischhacker.
Funeral service held 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2004 in Kranz Funeral Home Cass City with Dan Hitler of St. Pancratius Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Memorials may be made to St. Pancratius Catholic Church.
