LUCILLE MAXINE STINE,
88, of Deford, died peacefully Thursday, February 28, 2019 in the comfort of her home. She was born July 30, 1930 in Flint to Ivan and Frankie (Nichols) Underwood. She married Maynard Albert Stine December 23, 1950 in Parkland Presbyterian Church of Flint. He died February 22, 2018.
Lucille attended Saginaw General School of Nursing and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1951. She worked in Hills and Dales General Hospital of Cass City for nine years. Lucille was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She served on church council, Ladies Aid and sang in the choir for many years. Lucille enjoyed dancing with Maynard at many area senior dances. In earlier years, Lucille and Maynard loved to travel. Sault Ste. Marie was her favorite location to visit. Lucille spent time knitting and reading. A great Scrabble player, she was affectionately known by her family as the Scrabble Queen.
Lucille is survived by her children: Maynard (Catherine) Stine, Jr. of Carrollton; David Stine of Ypsilanti; Michael (Denise) Stine of Deford; Diane (Michael) Lowe of Deford; Karen (Peter) Fittante of Durand; Susan Smith of Cass City; Brian (Peggy) Stine of Applegate; Laura (Scott) Dennis of Deford; 19 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; brother, Dale (Barbara) Underwood of Heartland; brother in law, Vaughn Titus of Grand Rapids; sisters in law: Irene Kinyon of Fishers, IN; Louise Schwanke of Bay City; Alberta (Norbert) Conrad of Capac; Joann Sholtis of Capac; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard Stine; twin infant sons: Mark Stine, Michael Stine; her grandson, Robert Lowe; brother, Gerald Underwood; sister, Dorothy Titus; sisters in law: Alice Ogden and Mary Underwood.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2019 in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Cass City with Rev. Steve Bagnall officiating. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Stine will be: Christopher Stine, Michael Stine, Joshua Stine, William Smith, Matthew Fittante, Andrew Fittante. Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Rawson Memorial Library or Saginaw General Alumni Scholarship.
