ROBERT L. STICKLE,
92, of Cass City died following a lengthy illness Monday, November 21, 2016 in his home. He was born October 21, 1924 in Rosebush to Roy E. and Gertrude M. (Struble) Stickle. He married Barbara Lee Goudy June 16, 1950 in Capac.
Bob served in the U.S. Army as a demolition technician and was part of the first wave of the Normandy Invasion. He was decorated with the Meritorious Service Award for his action in Germany's Saar River Valley. Bob was Principal of Deford School and later Cass City Intermediate School for twenty two years. While Principal, he served as Athletic Director for twelve years and taught driver's education. Bob was a charter member and past president of the annual Thumb Track and Field Meet of Champions. He was director and past president of the Gavel Club Invitational Track Meet for nineteen years. After retiring, he and Alden Asher opened the Coin Shop in Cass City. Bob also worked for Kelly & Company Realty. A member of Cass City United Methodist Church, he was active as Chairman of the Finance Committee. Bob was a former treasurer of the Cass City Chamber of Commerce. He also ran for State Representative in the early eighties. He was a proud member of the Cass City VFW Post #3644. Bob was awarded Cass City Citizen of the Year in 1995. In his spare time, he loved to play golf.
Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara; their children: Diane Santhany of Cass City, Timothy Stickle of Burlington, VT, Pamela (Thomas) Jeffrey of Raleigh, NC, Jason McCallum of Twin Lake; step brother, Jay (Judy) Stickle of Cassopolis; grandchildren: Sacha, Chase, Jody, Lisa, Jesse, Sarah, Jordan, Elizabeth, Morgan, Alexander; great grandchildren: Erin, Lillian, Mariah, Taylor, Halie, Keegen, Faith, Jacob, Jaylen, Jenalise, Brayden, Abbigal; one great great granddaughter, Sofia; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, John (Polly) Stickle and sister, Barbara (Earl) Doyle.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Rev. Jackie Roe of Cass City United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Memorials may be made to Cass City United Methodist Church, Rawson Memorial Library, Cass City Public School Athletic Department.
