Donald W. Stewart, 71, of Caro, died Tuesday, August 24, 2010 in Covenant Health Care Cooper Campus, Saginaw following a long illness. He was born July 18, 1939 in Royal Oak to Edwin and June (Horalek) Stewart. He married Norma Jean Pitcher March 4, 1961 in Caseville.

Donald served in the U.S. Marines. He worked as a Crane Operator and Sand Dryer for General Motors at the Gray Iron Foundry in Saginaw for 30 years retiring in 1990. Don was also a hobby farmer raising cash crops and beef cattle. He enjoyed restoring tractors, fishing and deer hunting with his granddaughter. He was a member of the Kingston AMVETS Post #1072. Don’s greatest love was spoiling his granddaughter, Crystal.

Donald is survived by his wife, Norma; children: Lori (Cal) Barrett of Caro, Donald Stewart Jr. of Caro; granddaughter, Crystal Barrett; brother, Robert (Lois) Stewart of Gladwin; sisters: Geraldine (Donald) Parker of Mio, Carol (Richard) Wagner of Fairgrove, Shirley (Roy) Latty of Shields, Donna Zagorski of Cass City; many nieces and nephews and his Yorkie, Sadie. Also surviving are Norma’s family, brothers and sisters-in-law: Ronald (Peggy) Pitcher of Cass City, Phyllis Pitcher of Owendale. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dennis Stewart; infant sister, Laverne Stewart; sister and brothers-in-law: Sam and Thera Morgan, Larry Pitcher; mother and father-in-law, Mabel and Floyd Pitcher.

Funeral service held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 2010 in Kranz Funeral Home, Kingston with Rev. Debra Brown of Kingston United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in East Dayton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Family Discretionary Fund. Family and friends may share memories, prayers and stories with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
