ROBERT SPEIRS
Robert Speirs, 72, of Cass City, died Friday, September 3, 2004 in his home with his family at his side. He was born July 17, 1922 in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada to George and Florence (Hulme) Speirs. He married Norma A. McConnell January 25, 1946 in Cass City.
Bob served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a gunner on a B17. On onw mission he was shot down over Germany and taken prisoner. He was a prisoner of war for nearly 13 months before his release in 1945. Bob worked for General Cable for over 25 years until his retirement. He was a proud member of the Cass City VFW Post #3644 and the DAV. He was a member of Novesta Church of Christ filling many offices, including Elder, over the years. He enjoyed horses, hunting and riding his motorcycle.
Bob is survived by his wife, Norma; children: Ron (Randee) Speirs of Cass City, Jane (John) Luana of Deford, Skip (Ellen) Speirs of Deford, David (Karen) Speirs of Cass City, Becky (Mark) Zmierski of Caro; grandchildren: Russell (Kristie) Speirs, Andrea (Mark) Cusack, Joseph (Becky) Luana, Jamie (Garold) Peasley, Jimmy Luana, Adina Speirs, Brandon Speirs, Zachary Speirs, Brady (Kristy) Speirs, Jason Speirs, Lindsey Speirs, Sarah Zmierski, Kayla Zmierski; great grandchildren: Caden Cusack, Ryder Luana and two new great grandchildren due soon; brother, David (Shirley) Speirs of Livonia; sister, Eleanor Paul of Anaheim, CA; many nieces and nephews. Bob is preceded in death by his son, Rick Speirs and grandson, Michael Speirs; brother, George Speirs; sisters: Florence Beutler and Agnes Leaveck.
Funeral services to be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 6, 2004 in Novesta Church of Christ with Chuck Emmert and Brad Speirs officiating. Memorials may be made to Novesta Church of Christ or Cass City VFW Post #3644. Interment will take place in Novesta Township Cemetery. Military honors under the direction of Cass City VFW Post #3644.
Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, in church
