Norma A. Speirs, 85, of Cass City, died following a short illness, Sunday, November 18, 2012 in her home encircled in love by her children. She was born January 15, 1927 at home in Ellington Township to Vernon B. and Verna B. (Keilitz) McConnell. She married Robert Speirs January 25, 1946 in Cass City. He died September 3, 2004.
Norma worked as a clerk for Western Auto, as a housekeeper at Hills and Dales General Hospital, for General Cable and for Eichers Cleaners. She was a longtime member of Novesta Church of Christ. But most important to Norma was her family and friends. She enjoyed playing games with them, especially Euchre and board games. In her earlier years she enjoyed riding horses, playing baseball on the church league and dancing. Norma loved attending dinners with family and friends. She enjoyed the occasional motorcycle ride. Even this summer she was able to take a ride with her son.
Norma is survived by her children: Ron (Randee) Speirs of Cass City, Jane (John) Luana of Deford, Skip (Ellen) Speirs of Deford, David (Karen) Speirs of Cass City, Becky (Mark) Zmierski of Caro: grandchildren: Russell (Kristie) Speirs, Andrea (Mark) Cusack, Joseph (Carrie) Luana, Jamie (Garold) Peasley, Jimmy (Ashley) Luana, Adina (Brent) Gamron, Brandon (Michelle) Speirs, Zachary Speirs, Brad (Kristy) Speirs, Jason Speirs, Lindsey (Chris) Skiles, Sarah Zmierski, Kayla Zmierski; great grandchildren: Caden, Jayce, Taryn, Ryder, Jesse, Cohen, Cooper, Zoe, Kellie, Ray, Scott, Khloe, Emily and Ethan; special friend, John Barry; brothers: Leigh McConnell of Englewood, FL, Don (Arlene) McConnell of Cass City, Chuck (Wanda) McConnell of Paw Paw; sisters: Melva (Stan) Guinther of Cass City, Peggy (Dave) Nordquist of Cass City. She is preceded in death by: son, Ricky Speirs; grandson, Michael Speirs; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Norman Blue; sister-in-law, Faye McConnell.
Funeral service held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2012 in Novesta Church of Christ with Brad Speirs officiating. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery, Cass City.
