James Howard Spaulding

JAMES HOWARD SPAULDING,
71, of Deford died Thursday, September 6, 2018 in Covenant Medical Center Cooper Campus, Saginaw. He was born April 17, 1947 in North Hornell, New York the second of three children born to Howard George and Evelyn Rheta (Thurston) Spaulding. He married Lorraine Arlene VanDuker Vinson Cutlip February 6, 2013 in Caro, MI.

James graduated from High School before joining the U.S. Marines. He did electrical work on aircraft during his service in the Marines. After his service in the military he attended Alfred State College in New York to study as an electrician. James worked for Corning Inc. retiring at age 55 after over 36 years of service as an electrician. James came from generations of bakers and still enjoyed making bread from scratch. When he was younger he enjoyed downhill skiing and kayaking with his children. James served as a volunteer fireman for over 20 years for Savona, NY. He was elected as judge serving four years for Steuben County, NY. He was a member of the Caro American Legion Post #7 and the Mayville Eagles #4099. James was a talented woodworker and recently took acrylic painting classes in Florida. He enjoyed playing piano, and playing cards with Lorraine and friends while they wintered in Winter Haven, FL.

James is survived by his wife, Lorraine; children: Kurt Spaulding of Bath, NY, Kristina Spaulding of Cary, NC, Brian (Kristen) Spaulding of Campbell, NY; the mother of his children, Claudia Spaulding of Campbell, NY; grandchildren: Bryce, Brayden and Breann; sister, Suzann (Lynn) LaBarr of Coopers Plains, NY; several nieces and nephews; step-children: Anthony Bennett of Deford; Elliott (Kim) Vinson III of Caro; 10 step grandchildren and 17 step great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jane Stampp; and step daughter, Bernadette Redman.

A graveside service held Friday, September 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in East Dayton Cemetery with Rev. Carole Brown of Mayville United Methodist Church officiating.
