IRENE BERNICE SMUTEK
Irene B. Smutek, 78, of Millington, died Friday, May 8, 2009 in Brian’s House, Bay City. She was born August 3, 1930 at home in Novesta Township to Meritt and Sarah (Hutchinson) Hawley.
Irene worked on the family farm and helped neighbors on their farms. She worked for a local restaurant and at a beauty shop in Caro. Irene enjoyed vegetable gardening, sewing and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan.
Irene is survived by her sons: Charles Smutek of Flint, James Smutek of Millington; grandchildren: Elizabeth, Sarah, Kendra; great-grandchildren: Skilar, Essence; brothers and sisters: Wayne (Koza) Hawley of Clarkston, Warren (Minnieflora) Hawley of Brooksville, FL, John (Normajean) Hawley of Plymouth, Alton Hawley of Akron, Willard (Anita) Hawley of Akron, Frank Hawley of Bay City, Rowena Thorp of Columbiaville, Rosella Dixon of Traverse City, Marlene Dennis of Caro; many nieces and nephews. Irene is preceded in death by brothers and sisters: Mary Thorp, Lena Haney, Beulah Cookenmaster, Jennie Thorp, Leonard Hawley, Joseph Hawley, Andy Hawley; sister-in-law, Beverly Hawley; brothers-in-law: Dwayne Thorp, Jack Dennis, Edward Dixon.
Funeral service held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2009 in Kranz Funeral Home Cass City. Interment will be in Ellington Township Cemetery.
