James W. Smithson, 74, of Cass City, died unexpectedly Monday, October 19, 2015 in Hills and Dales General Hospital, Cass City. He was born February 6, 1941 in Cass City to Roy and Alice (Robbins) Smithson. He married Joann Zawilinski September 21, 1963 in Cass City.
Jim graduated from Cass City High School and was employed by General Cable working with computers and scheduling. He was a member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Cass City and Cass City Gagetown Knights of Columbus Council #8892. Jim enjoyed woodworking, bowling and golf. He was forever loyal to the Detroit Tigers and Lions.
Jim is survived by his wife, Joann; children: Jim (Deb Poyser) Smithson, Jr. of Fort Wayne, IN; Julie (Barry) Patterson of Warren, Jeff (Gretchen Gersonde) Smithson of St. Joseph; grandchildren: Rob Smithson, Megan and Kelsey Patterson; brother, Edward (Saralie) Smithson of Sandusky; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ilene Smith; nephew, Kevin Smith.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2015, in Our Lady Consolata Parish, St. Pancratius Catholic Church with Rev. Christian Tabares officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Memorials may be made to St. Pancratius Catholic Church or Revive Food Bank.
