LUELLA MAE SMITH
Luella M. Smith, 94, of Snover, died Monday, December 11, 2006 in Sanilac County Medical Care Facility, Sandusky. She was born August 31, 1912 in Pontiac to Erwin and Cloa (Francisco) Sadler. She married Charles Smith June 19, 1935 in Snover. He died April 30, 1959.
Luella helped her husband on the family farm. After his death, Luella worked at Cass City Hospital and then Hills & Dales Hospital in Cass City. Luella loved music and was able to play many instruments by ear. She played piano, accordion and harmonica. Luella played piano in the dance hall above Doerr Restaurant. She played piano in a kitchen band with Shabbona Extension. Luella traveled extensively by train and plane including trips to California, Hawaii and North Carolina. She was a member of Shabbona United Methodist Church, Shabbona Extension and Sanilac County Farm Bureau. Luella loved children and especially loved and enjoyed her grandchildren.
Luella is survived by her children: Elinor (Richard) Loeding of Snover, Marvin (Connie) Smith of Palm Coast, FL; grandchildren: Diane (Phil) Matusik, Dwight (Rita) Loeding, Danette (Mark) Bolton, Debra (Paul) Auten, David Loeding, Michelle (Dion) Davis, Mark Smith; great grandchildren: Rik, Daniel (Sabrina), Elizabeth, Brett Loeding, Meleah, Rachel, Chaz, Shane Auten, Chance, Macklin, Caleb Bolton, Mitchell, Megan, Matthew Davis; great great grandson, Trace; sister-in-law, Helen (Harold) Bentley of Saginaw; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brothers: Elwin Sadler, Perry Sadler; sisters: Celia Coats, Elsie Carpenter.
Funeral service held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 16, 2006 in Shabbona United Methodist Church with Rev. Ellen Burns officiating. Memorials may be made to Shabbona United Methodist Church or Sanilac County Medical Care Facility. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Pallbearers for Luella: Mark Smith, Phil Matusik, Dave Loeding, Melvin Smith, Harold Smith and Grant Sadler.
