Lena Smith

Lena K. Smith, 89, of Imlay City, died Monday, February 16, 2009 in Marlette Regional Hospital Extended Care Unit. She was born October 4, 1919 near Chatham, Ontario to Harry and Alice “Ali” (Everett) Welch. She married Layton W. Smith January 18, 1941 in Pontiac.

Lena worked for Montgomery Wards and for Waites Department Store in Pontiac. She was a member of North Goodland Baptist Church in Imlay City and a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Pontiac. Lena was a great cook and hospitable hostess. She was an excellent seamstress.

Lena is survived by her husband, Layton; daughters: Sharon (Lyle) Howard of Oxford, Marlene (Daryl) Brezee of Metamora; grandchildren: Heidi Wyke, Shane (Delphine) Brezee, Michelle (Marty) Pietras, Daryl (Christina) Brezee; great grandchildren: Brandon, Levi, Seth, Becca, Scott, John and Selah Joy; special caregiver, Sherri Domzalski of Imlay City. She is preceded in death by her sister, Verlyn Welch.

Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 20, 2009 in North Goodland Baptist Church with Pastor Tom Blount officiating. Interment will be in Goodland Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Smith: Brandon Wyke, Shane Brezee, Daryl Brezee, Levi Brezee, Seth Brezee, Milo Brown and Marty Pietras. Memorials may be made to North Goodland Baptist Church.
