Alfred Smith

Alfred M. Smith, 74, of Deford, died Tuesday, October 22, 2002 in Tendercare Nursing Facility. He was born April 4, 1928 in Roderfield, West Virginia to Raleigh and Hattie M. (Hicks) Smith. After the death of his first wife, Barbara, he married Helene B. (Katusick) Peak July 20, 1991. They’ve lived in Deford for the last 6 years.

Alfred has lived in and around Detroit since the 1950’s. He worked for a sign company for 17 years and then worked for General Motors in Detroit retiring in 1993 after 22 years. He loved hunting, raising and training dogs. Alfred worked on guns including some gunsmithing. He and Helene enjoyed camping.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Helene; children: LaDonna (Ricky) Wilson of St. Clair Shores, CaSandra (Curt) Danielewicz of Macomb Two; step-children: tom Peak of Kornersville, NC, Joyce (Jim) Hogston of Greensboro, NC; grandsons: James, Jamin, and Justin Hillwig, Max Danielewicz; step-granddaughters: Sarah and Becky Hogston, Tiffany and Teila Peak; great grandchildren: Nate, Luke and Kenneth; step great grandson, John; mother-in-law, Teresa Myer of War, WV; brothers: Bernard Smith, Darrel Smith, Jerry Smith, William Smith; sisters: Margie Beatty, Alita Hook, Vera Rose; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a 7-month-old daughter, Belinda Smith; two brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services held 8:00 p.m., Saturday, October 26, 2002 at Kranz Funeral Home Cass City with Pastor JT Mabe of Mizpah Missionary Church officiating. Interment is in Iaeger memorial Cemetery, Roderfield, West Virginia. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or American Heart Association.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday
