WILLIAM CLYDE SLAUGHTER JR.
89, of Deford, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 30, 2023 in his home. He was born February 18, 1934 in Flint to William Clyde and Clara Mae (McCulley) Slaughter. He married Charlene Georgina Sowden on January 28, 1955 in Argentine. She died June 1, 2021.
Bill worked for eight years as a laborer in construction, ten years as a carpenter for J.A. Fredman Construction of Pontiac. He retired after twenty years from Barton Malow Construction in Detroit. Bill looked forward to trips to Wyoming to hunt deer, antelope, and mule deer. He was most passionate about music. A self-taught guitar player, Bill played and sang in the Old County Band for forty-eight years. He also enjoyed playing at the Thumb Octagon Barn during fall days for twenty years. Bill played guitar in various places including Argyle, the Caro Pavilion, local Medical Care Facilities, and in the Cass City Park during the Fourth of July festivities.
Bill is survived by his daughters: Charlene Romain of Cass City; Crystal Halasz of Cass City; Julie (Steve) Frederick of Deford; Wendy Kelley of Caro; grandchildren: Jolynn Halasz, Cody Halasz, Derek Halasz; Brenden (Andrea) Frederick of Richland; Gavin (Carla) Frederick of Cass City; Jerry Kelley, Jr. of Minot, ND; Chad (Candice) Kelley of Frederick, MD; great grandchildren: Orion, Dakotah, Elise, Addison, Alivia, Alora, Aleena, Stella; sister, Janeth Lee Richmond of Kansas City, MO. He is preceded in death by his wife, Charlene; brothers: Oral Dorn Slaughter, Vinzel Andrew Slaughter; sisters: Betty Jean Harris, Zona Neilson, Zora M. Walrod, Charlotte Slaughter.
Funeral service held 12:00 p.m. Wednesday June 7, 2023 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Sam Leppert, funeral celebrant officiating. Interment in Novesta Township Cemetery, Cass City. Memorials may be made to The Shepherd’s Chapel, P.O. Box 416 Gravette, AR 72736-0416.
