CHARLENE GEORGINA SLAUGHTER
81, of Deford, died following a brief illness Tuesday, June 1, 2021 in the comfort of her home. She was born March 18, 1940 in Caro to John and Lula (King) Sowden. She married William Clyde Slaughter on January 28, 1955 in Argentine. Together they enjoyed sixty-six years of marriage.
Charlene worked at Anrod Screen Cylinder Company in Cass City, Stilley’s Western Store in Caro, Erla’s Grocery Store in Cass City, and the Deford Grocery Store. Her most valued job was that of a homemaker. Charlene loved flowers and gardening. She froze vegetables and canned fruits from her gardens. Charlene bowled with many leagues in Cass City, Caro, and Sandusky. Charlene and Bill enjoyed riding trail bikes and camping with their daughters on weekends. They enjoyed vacationing in Wyoming during the fall and visiting Yellowstone Park.
Charlene is survived by her husband, Bill; daughters: Charlene Romain of Cass City; Crystal Halasz of Cass City; Julie (Steve) Frederick of Deford; Wendy Kelley of Caro; grandchildren: Jolynn Halasz, Cody Halasz, Derek Halasz; Brenden (Andrea) Frederick of Richland; Gavin (Carla) Frederick of Cass City; Jerry Kelley, Jr. of Minot, ND; Chad (Candice) Kelley of Frederick, MD; great grandchildren: Orion, Dakotah, Elise, Addison, Alivia, Alora, Aleena, Stella. She is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Steven Daniels.
Funeral service held 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2021 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Brad Speirs of Novesta Church of Christ officiating. Interment in Novesta Township Cemetery, Cass City.
