STEPHEN RODNEY SLATER
86, of Wells Township, died Friday, October 1, 2021 in Covenant Medical Center, Cooper Campus. He was born July 13, 1935 in Flint to Stephen Duncan and Etta Pearl (Joslin) Slater. He married Rita Marie Harris in Caro on November 17, 1989.

Stephen served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1963, during the Korean War era; where it was his duty to guard the pipelines. Following his military years, he worked for Operating Engineers 324 retiring in 1994. Stephen had a reputation as being one of their best bulldozer operators. He was a long-time member of the Caro Assembly of God Church. Stephen enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, hunting, and camping in the Upper Peninsula. He also loved fishing, especially the annual June fishing trip with his brothers.

Stephen is survived by his wife of thirty-two years, Rita; children: Scott Slater of Mayville; Brice (Jennifer) Slater of Columbiaville; Stephanie Rulason of Burton; Robert Sharrard of Caro; Stacey (Richard) Fisher of Deford; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; brothers: Max Slater of Mayville; Jack (Judy) Slater of Kingsport, TN. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Slater.
