LEROY ERVING SIMMS,
84, of Cass City died following a lengthy illness Thursday, August 4, 2016 in Huron Medical Care Facility, Bad Axe. He was born December 20, 1931 in Mt. Clemens, the first of three children born to Erving and Wilma Marie (Nieman) Simms. He married Nancy Carol Ruedisueli August 8, 1959 in St. Jude Catholic Church, Detroit.
As a young man LeRoy worked on his family farm. He later worked various factory jobs in the Auto Manufacturing industry and several security jobs until his retirement. Lee was a life member of Cass City VFW Post #3644 and the Cass City Gagetown Knights of Columbus Council #8892. He enjoyed bowling in East Detroit and for many years in Cass City, bowling on leagues and just for fun. Lee also enjoyed remote control cars, and playing video and computer games with his grandchildren. He loved working in his gardens and kept his yard spotless. Watching and feeding the birds was something Lee enjoyed in the last few years.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Nancy; children: Deborah Simms of Troy, Sheila (William) Brown of Port Huron, Carol (Donald) Bork of Armada, David (Rebecca) Simms of St. Clair Shores; grandchildren: Jasmine (Matthew) Pelfrey, Joshua Simms, Jarod Simms, Andrew Brown, Alexander Brown, Tamara Brown, Sarah Brown, Michael Brown, Caitlin Bork, Garrett Bork, Jeremy Simms, Cory Simms; brother, Lloyd (Judy) Simms of Vanderbilt; sister, Betsy (Gerald) DeBlouw of Chesterfield Township; brothers-in-law: Harold (Maureen) Ruedisueli of Oscoda, Jerome (Sharon) Ruedisueli of Sterling Heights, Thomas (Carol) Ruedisueli Bloomfield; several nieces and nephews. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Mass held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 8, 2016 in Our Lady Consolata Parish St. Pancratius Catholic Church, Cass City with Rev. Christian Tabares officiating. Pallbearers for Mr. Simms are his grandsons: Joshua Simms, Jarod Simms, Andrew Brown, Alexander Brown, Michael Brown, Garrett Bork, Jeremy Simms and Cory Simms. Memorials may be made to Family Discretionary Fund. Military honors under the direction of United States Army and Cass City VFW Post #3644.
