ERIKA SHERMAN,
71, of Cass City, passed away Monday, October 15, 2012 in Tendercare Nursing Facility, Cass City, following a long illness. She was born July 23, 1941 in Langenau, Germany to Gustov and Katharina (Durr) Thierer. She married James Sherman August 27, 1961 in Cass City. He passed away April 1, 2007.
Erika attended public school in Langenau, Germany through the 8th grade (12th grade equivalent in US). She met her husband, James while he was serving in the U.S. Army. In 1961, following their marriage, she moved to Cass City. Erika worked and managed the family restaurant, Sherman's Restaurant until the late 1980's. She later worked in the deli at Erla's until her health no longer allowed her to work. Erika enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening, crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren and cats.
Erika is survived by her children: Howard Sherman of Cass City; Katy (Greg) Irwin of Capac; Ruby (Brian) Rideout of Prescott Valley, AZ; grandchildren: Jessica (Phil) Montie of Bad Axe, Sara (Aaron) Henderson of Bad Axe; great grandchildren: Ava, Adison and Tristan Henderson; brother, Erich Durr of Langenau, Germany; sister, Gerda Thierer of Langenau, Germany.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2012 in Kranz Funeral Home Cass City with Brad Speirs of Novesta Church of Christ officiating. Memorials may be made to Cass City VFW Post 3644 and Lewy Body Dementia Association. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery.
