GORDON RAYMOND SHAPTER,
71, of Kingston died following a short illness Friday, June 10, 2011 in Toni and Trish House in Auburn. He was born February 16, 1940 in Lapeer to Russell Raymond and Hazel Eliza (Gordon) Shapter. He married Martha Schwab 1964 in Canada. She died October 30, 1984. He later married Sharon Annette Hodge April 6, 1985 in Lapeer County.
Gordon graduated from Flint Junior College as a Skilled Trades Electrician. He worked as an Electrician for General Motors for 33 years. Gordon was a member of the Elba United Methodist Church. He was also a member of UAW Local #599. Gordon loved and collected steam engine trains since he was a little boy. He was a member of Steam Engine Collectors Club. He loved watching old Westerns especially anything with John Wayne or steam engines in it. Gordon enjoyed country music. Gordon was happiest on his farm where he enjoyed raising his own food. He loved his two miniature horses and his two shelties, Rusty and Duke.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Sharon; children: Collene (Basil VanderPool) Sears of Kingston, Kathy (Bud) Schriber of Millington, Jason (Stephanie) Shapter of Lapeer, William (Jennifer) Wright Shapter of Kingston; grandchildren: Autumn, Aaron, Katie (Lee) Patterson, LeeJ, JR, Jordin, Jazmyn, Bryan, Cathy, Leah, Cyrena, Ada, Jon, Brandon, Courtney; brother, Donald (Linda) Shapter of Hubbard Lake; nieces: Elizabeth, Karen; nephew, Paul. He is preceded in death by his infant son, William and his parents.
Funeral service held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2011 in Kranz Funeral Home, Kingston with Rev. Gerald Schriber officiating. Interment will be in Hunters Creek Cemetery, Lapeer. Pallbearers for Mr. Shapter: Aaron Lauer, Basil VanderPool, Jason Shapter, William Shapter, Jim Knolton and Jerry Monroe. Memorials may be made to Toni and Trish House.
