Roy Shaft

August 15, 1942 — May 25, 2013

ROY FRANKLIN SHAFT,
70, of Cass City, died Saturday, May 25, 2013 in Huron Medical Center, Bad Axe. He was born August 15, 1942 in Adrian to Richard Franklin and Dorothy Mabel (Stephenson) Shaft. He married Margaret (Margy) Ann Lenzi January 24, 1970 in Boston, MA.

Roy served in the U.S. Navy specializing in electronics and was honorably discharged in 1970. He finished his education at Michigan State University with a BS in Agronomy and Animal Nutrition. Roy retired from EDS in 2005 where he had been working for many years in the computer technology support field. Roy's strong faith provided a foundation for his entire family and the values he lived by will continue to shape those who knew him. Roy was incredibly devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren. He led by example, showed unending support, and infinite patience. Roy was never without his camera and captured many of their special moments at school and sporting events. He incorporated his talents with the camera with his love of nature, bird watching and camping resulting in a scenic timeline he shared with his family. Roy loved watching sports. He followed all of the Detroit teams and most importantly, the Michigan State Spartans.

Roy will be deeply missed by his wife, Margy "Peg"; children: Roy Franklin (Anita) Shaft, Jr. of Bettendorf, IA, Heather (Michael) Langenburg of Cass City, Rochelle (Tim) Shaltonis of Bad Axe; grandchildren: Colby, Ashleigh, Channing, Hunter, Lindsey, Tori, Kelcie, Abbey; brother, R. Michael (Sharon) Shaft of Williamston; sister, Wendy K. Shaft (Donald A. Bixler) of Williamston; aunt, Helen Aiken of Ann Arbor; uncle, Steve (Patt) Stephenson of MD; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 22, 2013 at his graveside in Oak Plains Cemetery, Shaftsburg. Interment will be in Oak Plains Cemetery, Shaftsburg. Military honors under the direction of the U.S. Navy. Memorials may be made to the Cass City VFW Post #3644, the Bad Axe VA Clinic, Rawson Memorial Library, or Gilda's Club Quad Cities, 1234 East River Dr., Davenport, IA 52803.
