DR. EDWARD CHARLES SCOLLON, DVM
Dr. Edward C. Scollon, 70, Cass City, died Friday, February 24, 2006 in his home. He was born February 5, 1936 in Owosso, to Edward and Elizabeth (Stevens) Scollon. He married Dorothy J. Ahrens June 20, 1959 in Michigan Center, MI.
Dr. Scollon received his Bachelor Degree in Dairy Science in 1959 and his DVM Degree in 1961 both from Michigan State University. After graduation he began his career as a Doctor of Veterinary medicine in Deckerville, then Marlette and then purchased his current clinic in Cass City in 1964 where he has continued his work for 42 years. Ed was a member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #8892, St. Pancratius Church Council, Cass City Lions Club (of which he was a former president); and a Tuscola County Health Board member. He was also a former Cass City Schools Board of Education member for 20 years (of which he was president for eight years). Ed was a Tuscola County Commissioner for ten years. Doc was selected as Cass City Citizen of the Year in 1994 and was Lion of the year also. He was very active in 4H and was once a 4H leader. He was a former Assistant Coach for Cass City Little League and a former member of Cass City Rotary. Doc loved Michigan State University, enjoying their football and basketball games. He loved old Case tractors, working on his farm, his work as a veterinarian and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his wife, Dotty; children: Teresa Scollon of Madison, WI, John Scollon of Grass Lake, Susan (Dan Cornette) Scollon of Falls Church, VA, Kathleen (Tim) Williamson of Shepherd, Michael (Lada) Scollon of Prague, Czech Republic; grandchildren: Trent Masar, Logan Williamson, Seth Williamson, Henry Cornette, Edward Cornette; brothers: Bernard (Isabel) Scollon of Laingsburg, Lawrence Scollon of Walled Lake; brother-in-law, Robert (Gladys) Ahrens of Bloomfield Hills; sister-in-law, Mary Alice (Clyde) Runyan of Clio; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father in law, Jean and John Ahrens; and his brother-in-law, Thomas Ahrens.
Funeral service held 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2006 in St. Pancratius Catholic Church with Rev. Steve Fillion officiating. Memorials may be made to Dr. Edward Scollon Foundation.
