Regina Hulda Salcido (Dressler)

January 18, 1930 — September 20, 2021

REGINA HULDA SALCIDO
91, of Gagetown, died peacefully Monday, September 20, 2021 in her home. She was born January 18, 1930 in her grandmother’s home in Sebewaing to Lendon and Anna (Nitz) Dressler. She married Joseph P. Salcido April 18, 1947 in St. Agatha Catholic Church, Gagetown. He died May 18, 2010.

Regina enjoyed serving others through her beloved St. Agatha Catholic Church. She served as President of the Womens Society and helped oversee funeral dinners. Regina was the “go-to” person for the food pantry and worked tirelessly to ensure its success, even acting as translator for the seasonal migrants. She volunteered her time with the Emmaus House of Saginaw. Regina also organized the Mexican dinners with which the proceeds founded a mission in Columbia. When working with the Coats for Kids Program, she made certain that any needy area child had a warm coat. Regina’s talent as a seamstress enabled her to sew over three thousand dresses for children in Africa and other parts of the world. She participated in a prison ministry at the Freeland Correctional Facility. Over the years, she received numerous awards for both church and community service including Citizen of the Year 2019 from the Owendale Lion’s Club.

Regina was a “people person”. If you had an event, she was there. Every grandchild thought they were her favorite because that’s how she made them feel. If you were really lucky, you would have been there for soup on Sunday or beans, torts, and fideo. Two of her favorite traditions were going to Bingo with her family on her birthday followed by supper at a Mexican restaurant and hosting every Christmas Eve for almost seventy years, always ending with her surrounded by her grandchildren. She would have them sing Christmas songs and carols, ending with Silent Night.

Regina is survived by her children: Sandra (Dave) Peters of Owendale, Joseph (Sandy) Salcido, Jr. of Owendale, Rosie (Jim Schramski) Salcido of Pt. Austin, Vincent (Kimberly) Salcido of Cass City, David Salcido of Gagetown, Rick (Michelle) Salcido of Caro; special “daughter” Joan Tomich of Gagetown; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren;. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of sixty-three years, Joseph; brother, Robert (Caroline) Dressler; brothers-in-law: Jesus Salcido, Anthony (Connie) Salcido, Louis (Mary Ann) Guzman, Tom (Donna) Salcido, John (Lucy) Salsido.
