JULIA “JULIE” SALAS,
78, of Cass City, died Tuesday, February 2, 2010 in St. Mary’s Medical Center, Saginaw. She was born July 21, 1931 in Hemans to Isidoro and Francesca (Medina) Navarro. She married Luis Hernandez Salas September 30, 1950 in St. Pancratius Catholic Church. He died January 20, 1989.
Julia worked for Walbro then General Cable. She later worked as a home healthcare caregiver for many years. Julia was a member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church and their Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of Cass City VFW Post #3644 Auxiliary. She enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers and was an avid BINGO player.
Julia is survived by her children: Erlinda (Wilfredo) Rodriguez of Bay City, Luis (Helen) Salas of Cass City, Eugene Salas of Detroit, Geraldine (Ronald) Simpson of Cass City; grandchildren: Freddy, Justin, Manuel, Brent “BJ”, Veronica, Matthew, Angie, Cameron; great grandchildren: Alexis, Ava, Little Freddy, Sadee, Little Manuel, Gloriel; brothers: Joseph (Myra) Navarro of Hemans, John Navarro of Metamora, Manuel (Bev) Navarro of Marlette, Julius (Joan) Navarro of Cass City; sisters: Rebecca (Floyd) Fowler of Spearfish, SD, Evelyn (Carl) Buniak of Snover; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sister, Irene Salas; brothers: Sixto Navarro and Guadalupe Navarro.
Funeral service held 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2010 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Sr. Maria Dina Puddu MC of St. Pancratius Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Julia will be her grandsons: Freddy, Justin, Manuel, Brent, Matthew and Cameron. Memorials may be made to Family Discretionary Fund.
