ROSS DEE HANSON

Ross D. Hanson, age 80, of Caro passed away peacefully following a short illness, surrounded by his children on Monday March 11, 2024. He was born November 11, 1943 the fifth of seven children born to Glenn and Glendora (Avery) Hanson.

He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Ross was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart.  He was dependable, generous, loyal, and brave.  Ross was clever with a dry sense of humor and spoke some of the best one-liners you have ever heard all given with the most infectious smile. He was endlessly proud of his children and grandchildren. Ross made sure that they had every opportunity available to them and he was proud of himself that he was able to provide that for them. He graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1962 and enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country until 1966.  Ross was employed by General Motors Saginaw Steering Gear for exactly thirty years, and not one minute more, before his retirement at age 53.  An animal lover, he was known for his barn cats and the great care he provided for them. Ross was an accomplished horse trainer and owner of thoroughbred racehorses in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Once an avid golfer, he made many friends at the golf course who will remember him fondly.  Like many of us he had a love/hate relationship with the Detroit Tigers and Lions, but continued to watch them both faithfully.

Ross is survived by his son, Zach Hanson and his wife, Carla Hanson; daughter, Ashley (Lowell) Hanson-Grimes and her husband, Lowell Grimes; grandsons:  Danny (Samantha) Angell, Jackson Grimes, Masen Grimes; great granddaughter, Blakely Angell; ex-wife and mother of his children, Maryann Hanson; brothers: Gene (Linda) Hanson, Terry (Maryann) Hanson, Jay Hanson; sister, Joy Linner; sister-in-law, Sharon Hanson; many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.  He is preceded in death by his sister, Dawn Wisneski; brother, Dale Hanson; sisters-in-law:    Alice Hanson, Karen Hanson; brother-in-law, Elmer Linner.  In typical Ross fashion, there are no services planned, certainly no pomp and circumstance. A private memorial will occur with details to be determined later.
