Olive E. Rohlfs, 91, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, formerly of Cass City, died peacefully Friday, January 11, 2008 in Fort Lauderdale, FL following a lengthy illness. She was born April 27, 1916 in Deford to Frank and Eliza (Hayes) Hegler. She married Donald MacLachlan June 10, 1939 in Cass City. He died January 19, 1963. Olive later married William E. Rohlfs December 28, 1963 in Cass City. William died October 19, 1999.
Olive moved to Fort Lauderdale about seven years ago to be near her daughter, Jane. Before moving to Fort Lauderdale, Olive was a very active member of Cass City First Presbyterian Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bradenton, FL. She enjoyed various church activities especially helping with the Rummage Sales at both churches. Olive loved entertaining and visiting with her friends. She enjoyed baking cookies and sharing them with friends and neighbors. She loved spending time with her family. When her family was young, she was involved in their activities especially as a Girl Scout leader. Olive’s grandchildren loved to visit her and Bill’s Caseville home where they enjoyed the bonfires.
Olive is survived by her daughters: Sue Young of Garden City and Jane Grieger of Fort Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren: Jennifer Young, Sarah (Mike) Roffi, Katherine (Ken) Brake; great grandchildren: Alex, Drew, Samantha and Jack; many nieces and nephews including Jack Gallagher of Cass City and Maryanne Adams of Sterling. She is preceded in death by her son-in-law, James Young; sisters: Myrtle Hegler and Hazel Gallagher; brother, Henry Hegler.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 2008 in Cass City First Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Blackburn officiating. Memorials may be made to Cass City First Presbyterian Church. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Rohlfs are: Ken Brake, Morris Powell, John Gallagher, Mark Adams, John Cottick and Dick Wallace.
