PHILIP LEE ROBINSON,
71, of Cass City died following a short illness Friday, February 1, 2013 in his home. He was born September 26, 1941 in Bad Axe to Clifford and Gladys (Dickinson) Robinson. He married Sandra Kathryn Janowiak May 25, 1963 in Ubly. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.
Philip graduated from Ubly High School in 1960. He joined the U.S. Army serving from 1960 until 1962, spending 18 months in Germany. He began his work at General Motors, Pontiac in 1963 where he worked as a production worker retiring after over 30 years. After retirement Philip attended Barber School in Flint. He owned and operated his own barber shop, Phil's Barber Shop, in Cass City for 19 years retiring a second time in 2011. Phil was a member of Cass City VFW Post #3644, St. Pancratius Catholic Church and the Cass City-Gagetown Knights of Columbus Council #8892. He was a former member of the Cass City Lions Club. Phil enjoyed playing softball on the Sunday and Monday Leagues. He played on the McCarty Trucking, Tyll's, and Colony House teams. Phil enjoyed baseball and managed and coached little league, Babe Ruth league, girls little league and girls traveling league. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and belonged to the Wolverine Association Horse Shoe Club and the M46 Association Horse Shoe Club winning two state titles. He also enjoyed bowling and golfing on the Monday Night Senior League, especially golfing with his grandson, Ryan.
Phil is survived by his wife, Sandy; children: Annette (Robert) Brown of Oxford, Gary Robinson of Cass City, Edward Robinson of Caro, Connie (Jerry) Ezell of Greenville, SC, Vicky Robinson of Cass City; grandchildren: Brent Robinson, Hailie Robinson, Derick Robinson, Timothy Ezell, Ryan Robinson; brothers: Larry (Sharon) Robinson of Caro, Kevin (Clarice) Robinson of Ubly; sister, Rebecca (Kevin) O'Connor of Minden City; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents, Clifford and Gladys and his brothers, Daniel and Dennis Robinson.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2013 in St. Pancratius Catholic Church with Rev. Paul Bala and Sr. Maria Dina Puddu, MC officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Robinson: Kenny Grifka, Tom Guinther, Maynard Stine, Jerry Lamoureux, Tom Herron and Elwyn Helwig.
