LEOLA RETHERFORD,
Leola Retherford, 92, of Cass City, died Monday, June 10, 2013 in Courtney Manor, Bad Axe. She was born February 23, 1921 in Croswell to Norris and Ada (Wellman) Boyne. She married Arleon Cooper Retherford June 4, 1941 in her parent's home in Kingston. He died February 3, 1998.
Leola attended County Normal and went on to complete her BS Degree at Central Michigan University. She started her teaching career at Crawford County School in Deford. Leola taught for a total of 36 years. She taught various grades for 7 years in Deford; 2nd grade for 3 years in Kingston, and 4th grade for 19 years in Cass City. She was a member of Deford United Methodist Church until its closing. She enjoyed singing and sang at almost every funeral and wedding throughout the county. Leola was a member of Michigan Retired School Personnel and MEA retired teachers. Leola enjoyed crocheting and made afghans for all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Leola is survived by her children: Larry (Chris Hinz) Retherford of Bangor, Sandy (Randy) Kozan of Hastings; grandchildren: Jeffrey (Therisa) Retherford, Brian (Jackie) Retherford, Craig (Ann) Retherford, Randal (Nicole) Nicholas, Robert Nicholas, Lisa (Jeremy) Capps, Karianne (Kelsey) Reeves; 11 great grandchildren; four nephews. She is preceded in death by her sister, Reta McQuarrie.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Rev. Eldred Kelley of Wesleyan Church officiating. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Retherford: Jeffrey Retherford, Craig Retherford, Randal Nicholas, Robert Nicholas, Jeremy Capps, Kelsey Reeves. Memorials may be made to Bay Shore Camp.
