DENNIS HOWARD RECKINGER,
76, of Grayling, MI and University Park, FL, died following a short illness Saturday, January 21, 2012 in his home in University Park, FL surrounded in love by his family. He was born March 1, 1935 in Detroit to Dennis Anthony and Arvilla Grace (Ferguson) Reckinger. He married Beverley "Joan" Patterson February 25, 1971 in Sarasota, FL. Dennis was heartbroken by her death March 10, 2011.

Dennis grew up in Roseville and graduated in 1953 from Eastland High School in Roseville. He attended Detroit Institute of Technology on a basketball scholarship graduating with a Bachelors degree in Engineering. Dennis began his career with Midwest Rubber Company in 1957 and was dedicated to the corporation for over 53 years. He was a dedicated and hardworking businessman. Dennis was an avid hunter and fisherman. His house is full of the many trophy mounts he harvested himself during his many hunting trips throughout the U.S. and Canada. He enjoyed golfing when he was able and he loved spending time on his boat. Dennis was a loving husband, father, friend, and loyal business partner and employer.

Dennis is survived by his children: Denise (Cameron) Mackenzie of Lexington, Dina Wurmlinger of Lexington, Dennis Reckinger of Livonia, Jeffrey (Teresa) Reckinger of Sandusky, Gregory (Tammy) Reckinger of Locust Grove, VA; 13 grandchildren; 3 great grandsons and two great granddaughters due in the spring; his children's mother, Tootie Reckinger of Lexington. Dennis is also survived by his brother David Reckinger of Warren; many nieces and nephews. Dennis is also survived by his faithful golden retriever, Abby. Dennis is preceded in death by his sisters: Doraine Murray, Donna Mikolowski; brother, Doug Reckinger; and his loving and dedicated labradors: Corky, Dusty and Heidi Sue.

Funeral service held 6:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2011 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Rev. Rick Schark of Trinity Episcopal Church, Lexington officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
