LEBBEUS "LEB" GEORGE POMEROY,
97, of Lake City, FL, formerly of Cass City, died following a short illness Saturday, September 15, 2012, in Still Waters Assisted Living, Lake City, FL. He was born July 10, 1915 in Unionville to Ralph and Edith (Nelson) Pomeroy. He married Hazel May Rogers August 7, 1935. She died November 22, 2008.
Leb lived in Cass City, where he farmed until he moved to Bradenton, FL in 1973. Leb and Hazel had been wintering there for years previous. In 1998 he moved to Lake City to be closer to his son. He enjoyed shuffle board and won many trophies. He was State of Florida Shuffleboard Champion. Leb was also an official shuffleboard referee in Florida and North Carolina. Mr. Pomeroy enjoyed traveling in his motor home throughout the United States including Alaska and also throughout Canada. Lebbeus is a past Worshipful Master and lifetime member of the Tyler Lodge 317 F & A M in Cass City. He belonged to the Order of the Eastern Stars with his wife Hazel. While in Michigan he attended the Cass City United Methodist Church and the Wesley United Methodist Church while in Lake City.
Lebbeus is survived by his children: Raemarie Vainavicz of Kent City, Michael "Mick" Pomeroy of Lake City, FL; grandchildren: Ben Vainavicz Jr., Jeffrey Vainavicz, Renee' (Eric) VanDriel, Michael L. (Shana) Pomeroy; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of 73 years; son-in-law, Ben Vainavicz, Sr., great granddaughter, Ashley; brothers: Kenneth Pomeroy, Chloris Pomeroy; sisters: Edwinna Thompson, Lucille Murphy.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2012 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Rev. Jackie Roe of Cass City United Methodist Church, Tyler Lodge 317 F & Am of Cass City, and Rev. Anthony Vainavicz officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Nature Coast Hospice, Lake City, FL.
