Chloris Pomeroy

November 1, 1916 — March 27, 2012

Chloris "Fritz" Pomeroy, 95, of Cass City died Tuesday, March 27, 2012 in Northwood Meadows Medical Care Unit. He was born November 1, 1916 in Akron to Ralph and Edith (Nelson) Pomeroy. He married Marion Aleen Ainsworth October 12, 1938 in Berkley. She died June 28, 1990.

Fritz very proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Brule in the Pacific during World War II. After returning from the service he worked for Great Lakes Steele in Down River Detroit and then for Eaton Foundry in Vassar. In 1951 Fritz began crop farming in Unionville. After farming Fritz worked construction for a bit then retired with Marion to Holiday, FL where they became snowbirds. They traveled, including a six week trip to Alaska towing their little camper, and enjoyed their new found free time. Fritz was a devoted lifelong United Methodist Church member attending Wisner United Methodist Church for many years then Trinity United Methodist Church and most recently Cass City United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday School, Bible School and was a Youth Counselor and Activity Director. He also served as a Lay Leader. Fritz was a member of Cass City VFW Post #3644. He enjoyed working the Post Bingo nights occasionally serving as the caller. Fritz loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He had infinite patience to teach young people. He taught his children and grandchildren about hunting, fishing and an appreciation for the out doors. He was a kind and gentle man.

Fritz is survived by his children: Chloris "Spike" Pomeroy of Cass City, Carole (Myrel) Thomas of Bay City; grandchildren: Heidi, Kristie, Brian (Jessica), Locki, Meagan; great grandchildren: Alexis, Zachary, Sydni, Garrett, Dylan, Reece, Seth, Colleen, Travis, Eliana; great great grandson, Skyler Michael; brother, Lebbeus Pomeroy of Lake City, FL; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Patrick Pomeroy; brother, Kenneth Pomeroy; sisters: Edwinna Thompson, Lucille Murphy.

Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012 in Cass City United Methodist Church with Rev. Jackie Roe officiating. Interment is in Hickory Island Cemetery, Akron Township. Pallbearers for Mr. Pomeroy: Brian Thomas, Dave Johnroe, Travis Johnroe, Tim Stalker, Seth Reinhart, Reece Reinhart, Jim Bissonette, Gary Pake, Garrett Pomeroy and Dylan Pomeroy. Military honors under the direction of Cass City VFW Post #3644 and U.S. Navy. Memorials may be made to the Charity of the Donor's Choice.
