HELEN VIRGINIA PETERS
80, of Cass City, died unexpectedly on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021 in her home. She was born July 7, 1940 in Caro the second of eight children to Lawrence and Mary (Weis) Romain. She married Dwaine Peters January 25, 1956 in Caro.
Helen was a great employee and worked for LorDels in Bad Axe and Charmont Restaurant in Cass City as an amazing waitress, the Little Texas Party Store in Brown City, and Plasta Fiber in Marlette. She had the honor of being the Cass City Centennial Queen in 1965. Helen was a girl scout leader, a member of the AAUW, The Moose Lodge in Caro, and Our Lady Consolata Parish, St. Pancratius Catholic Church, Cass City. She was an avid reader, loved to write poetry, and a collector of bell figurines. Helen enjoyed shopping, especially when selecting a special gift for someone. A caring and generous woman with a giving heart, she was happiest when she warmed someone’s heart with a special gift. Her most special gift was her love for her family.
Helen is survived by her husband, Dwaine Peters of Cass City; children: Rebecca (Robert) Bird of Cass City; Renee (Michael) Brinkman of Cass City; Dwaine (Barbara) Peters II of Cass City; Rochelle (Paul) Brown of Cass City; Virgil (Amy) Peters of Cass City; grandchildren: Benjamin (Jamie) Hennessey, Nathan (Amber) Hennessey, Aimee (Justin) McIntosh, Anna Bird, Kristen Bird, Chloe (Dennis) Kikanobic, Ian Bird, Heather Franzel, Heidi Lyne Pomeroy, Melissa Erla, David Erla, Jessica Peters, Mason Brown, Justin Peters, Emily Peters; many great-grandchildren; siblings: Mary Jo (Robert) Ward of Caro; Clyde (Connie) Romain of Cass City; Tom (Betsy) Romain of Spring Lake; sisters-in-law: Diane Romain, Kathy Romain; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Lawrence (Eldora) Romain; mother, Mary (Kenneth) Barton; siblings: Lawrence Romain, David Romain, Lorca Diane “Penny” Romain, Peter Romain; grandsons: Zachary Hennessey, Dwaine Joseph Peters III, Benjamin Bird.
Funeral Mass held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 8, 2021 in Our Lady Consolata Parish, St. Pancratius Catholic Church, Cass City with Rev. Theo Nnabugo officiating. Interment will be in Elkand Township Cemetery. Memorials my be made to Rochelle Brown for the family discretionary fund.
