Viretta B. Pena, 76, of Cass City, died following a long battle with MS, Monday, May 11, 2015 in Tendercare Nursing Facility. She was born September 6, 1938 in Cass City the second of five children born to Bernard and Irene (Hess) Furness. She married Ernest Pena July 7, 1956 in Cass City. He died June 7, 1999.
Viretta worked for a time for Walbro Manufacturing in Cass City. Before her MS diagnosis she enjoyed shopping, traveling and just getting out of the house for a drive. Vi enjoyed sewing and crocheting and helping her granddaughters learn also. She enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren, especially UNO. Vi was a huge John Wayne fan and enjoyed watching western movies and television shows like Bonanza. She was strong willed and fiesty up to the very end.
Viretta is survived by her children: Marie (Randy) Horne of Cass City, Ernest (Mandy) Pena of Russiaville, IN, Robert (Carol) Pena of Churubusco, IN, Angel Pena of Cass City; grandchildren: Samantha (Eric) Collins, Sonya Horne, Carrie Pena, Kylee (Nathan) Wall, Katee Pena, Marcus Pena; great grandchildren: Shelbee, Gabe, Madilyn and Lucas. She will also be missed by her brothers: Theodore (Jan) Furness of Cass City, George (Mickey) Turner of Vassar; sister, Val Jo Knowlton of Caro; brother-in-law, Dale (Betsy) Mellendorf of Cass City; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by great grandson, Cole; sister, Charlotte Mellendorf; sister-in-law, Deb Turner.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Brad Speirs of Novesta Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery.
