Walter L. Parrott, Jr., 90, of Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Kingston, died Wednesday, October 27, 2004 in Community North Hospital, Indianapolis, IN after a short illness. He was born December 9, 1913 in Royal Oak, MI to Walter and Grace Pearl (VanHorn) Parrott, Sr. He married Mildred �"Millie” E. Everett December 8, 1946 in Millie’s parent’s home in Kingston. She died July 11, 1996.
Walter served in the U.S. Army 1941 through 1945 during World War II. He was stationed in North Africa going through Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. He eventually was sent to England and then Germany. He worked as a mechanic, cook and then dentist while in the service. Walter became a barber after returning from the war. He enjoyed building, completing two houses and the Post Office building in Kingston. He was appointed Kingston Postmaster serving from August 1955 to December 1, 1978. He was a longtime member of Kingston United Methodist Church serving in many capacities including President of the Board of Trustees. Walter was a member of Kingston VFW Post #5317. He served many years as Director on the Kingston Cemetery Board. He was a member of the former Kingston Businessman’s Association and served as a board member for the Tuscola County Senior Citizens.
Walter is survived by his children: Grace M. (Clark) Ketchum of Indianapolis, IN, James E. (Karin) Parrott of Fishers, IN; grandchildren: Matthew J. (Jennifer) Parrott of Tampa, FL, Meghan E. Parrott of Fishers, IN; sister, Lois Parrott of Troy; sisters-in-law: Esther ‘Everett’ Graham, Lois ‘Everett’ Birchard, Donna ‘Wilmot’ Everett; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ellery; brothers-in-law: Henderson Graham, Carlysle Everett and Guy Jarvis.
Funeral services held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 31, 2004 in Kingston United Methodist Church, with Rev. Terry Butters officiating. Memorials may be made to Kingston United Methodist Church. Interment will take place in Kingston Cemetery.
