Irma M. Ouvry , 97, of Cass City, died Friday, April 18, 2003 in her home. She was born October 11, 1905 in Ruyselede, Belgium to Charles and Leonie (Arix) Mortier. She married Louis L. Ouvry September 4, 1926 in The Belgian Church, Our Lady of Sorrows, in Detroit. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in 2001. He died September 6, 2001.
Irma immigrated to the U.S. in 1920. She was a lifetime member of the Belgium Century Club and the Woman’s Century Club. She played cards with the Owen-Gage Euchre club. She enjoyed spending time with her family and also gardening, canning.
Irma is survived by: 14 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-laws; Phyllis Ouvry and Gloria Ouvry; brother, Francis Mortier of Roseville; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her children: Charles and Mary Ouvry, Aime and Mary Ouvry, and George Ouvry; grandson Ken Ouvry; great great grandson, Jonathan Erla; sisters: Mary, Selma and Margaret.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 21, 2003 at St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Cass City with Father Steve Fillion officiating. Scripture service will be 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 20, 2003 at Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City. Memorials may be made to St. Pancratius Catholic Church, Capuchin Monastery in Detroit, or Hospice of Marlette. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Irma are her grandsons: Doug, Mike, Gary, Chuck, Don and Ron Ouvry.
