Marion R. O’Dell, 86, of Cass City, died Sunday, February 13, 2011 in the home of her daughter, Chris and husband Merrill Turner where she has resided and been lovingly cared for during the past 4 years. She was born September 30, 1924 in Clifford, MI to Gilbert Lewis and Minnie Melissa (Turner) Townsend. She married Mac Bryan O’Dell June 21, 1941 in the United Brethren Church, Colwood, MI. Mac preceded her in death December 30, 1976.
Early in their marriage, Marion worked at Lapeer Hospital in the Delivery and Nursery Department. Marion assumed the role of Pastor’s wife when her husband became Pastor of the Clifford Baptist Church in the mid 1950’s and later starting a Missionary Baptist Church in Caseville, MI. She later worked at Pleasant Home Hospital in Cass City and then at Hills and Dales General Hospital where she ran Central Supply Department and worked as a Nurses Aid. Later Marion worked for Caro Regional Center as a Resident Care Aid, retiring after 25 years. Marion loved music and dance from an early age. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, fishing and bird watching. She rode motorcycles and loved driving convertibles as well.
Marion is survived by her children: Michael O’Dell of Zebulon, GA, Cheryl (Ed) Paladi of Cass City, Christina (Merrill) Turner of Cass City; grandchildren: Michael O’Dell, Jr., Tammie Hartman, Debra Paladi, Misty (Dirk) DeLong, Rob (Eva) Coryell, Megan Turner, Rebecca Dyer; great grandchildren: Jessica, Ashley, Abigail, Samantha, Sarah, Chelsea, Kelly, Austin, Ryan, Sean; great great grandchildren: Danika, Mikaela, Landon, Carter; nieces: Joyce (Carl) Palmateer of Cass City, Mary Jane (Duane) Warner of Deford; sister-in-law, Maxine O’Dell of Caro; several O’Dell nieces and nephews; co-worker and special longtime friend, Joyce Donath of Mayville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mac; daughter-in-law, Bobbie O’Dell; brothers: Lloyd McGuire, Charles McGuire, Erwin McGuire; sisters: Hazel Angel, Erma McInally.
Funeral service held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in Kranz Funeral Home Cass City with nephew Rev. Dr. Art O’Dell officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Gagetown. Pallbearers are Rob Coryell, Dirk DeLong, Merrill Turner, Mike O’Dell, Ed Paladi and Mike O’Dell, Jr. Memorials may be made to Coachlight Pharmacy Memorial Fund.
