JAMES DOUGLAS NICHOLS,
62, of Decker died following a long illness Tuesday, February 14, 2017 in St. Marys Medical Center, Saginaw. He was born April 3, 1954 in Lapeer to Robert W. and Joyce M. (Walton) Nichols.
James graduated from Lapeer High School. He has lived in the Decker area since 1975. James loved being outside and his passion was working his organic farm. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, snowmobiling, skiing and country line dancing. Natural living brought him great peace. Since his childhood when his family hosted a foreign exchange student from New Zealand, James had a desire to go there. In 2012 James and Chase were able to tour New Zealand on a 17 day trip which included bungee jumping not once, but twice. A once in a life time trip for James and Chase completed his dream.
James is survived by his son, Chase Nichols of Decker; significant other, Evelyn Durst of Decker; grandson, Masen Nichols; father, Robert Nichols of Imlay City; mother, Joyce Wilt of Lapeer; and many friends. James will also be missed by his beloved dog and companion, Louie. He is preceded in death by his infant son, David.
