JOHN WILLIAM NEWTON,
73, of Cass City, died Thursday, July 15, 2021 in McLaren Lapeer Region Hospital. He was born July 21, 1947 in Detroit to James and Vivian (Seffern) Newton. He married Mary Joanne Brazzil on November 30, 1985 in Redford.
John graduated from Northville High School and was drafted into military service. He served in the U.S. Army 716th Military Police Company guarding the U.S. Embassy in Saigon, Vietnam. Upon returning home, he went to work as a police officer for the city of Detroit and retired following a twenty-five year career. An avid shooter, John was an expert shot especially when it came to shooting skeet. Deer hunting and fishing were some of his favorite recreational activities. A native of Detroit, he supported the Red Wings and the Tigers. John’s greatest love was for his family, particularly his grandchildren. He was a proud member of the Cass City V.F.W. Post #3644.
John is survived by his wife, Joanne; children: Tiffany (Thomas) Hensel of Shelby Township; John William (Carol) Newton II of Sterling Heights; Chad Newton (Amanda Kile) of Cass City; Luke Newton of Eastpointe; grandchildren: Tyler Hensel, Troy Hensel, Madison Newton, Jazmine Kile; sister, Sheron (John) Snyder of Mason; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, James “Skip” Newton.
Burial held Monday, July 26, 2021 in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly with military honors conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Cass City VFW Post #3644. Family and friends may share memories, prayers, and photos with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
